5 Tips To Extend Your Outdoor Entertaining Season

We all know that social distancing is easier and safer when it’s done outside. The warm weather is coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean it’s the end of your social season! Transitioning your “fun in the sun” summer patio to a warm and cozy fall hangout will allow you to entertain guests all autumn long. Here are 5 ways to make your outdoor spaces fall friendly:

  1. Prepare For Snow

It’s Colorado, so you have to be prepared for snow in the fall months. Start with woodsy furniture, such as adirondack chairs, and cozy them up with weather resistant cushions and pillows. Then add plenty of blankets! An outdoor rug, with warm colors, can go a long way to make your space more intimate, and to keep feet toasty. A heated plug-in rug or mat is a great investment, especially if you want to use your space into mid-November. It will add extra warmth, and melt any early snowfall.

  1. Warm It Up!

FIRE PIT: Who doesn’t love to snuggle up next to a warm fire with friends, family, or just a good book? A fire pit will make you and your guests much more comfortable as the weather cools down. It’s also perfect for fall activities such as roasting marshmallows or telling spooky stories! In addition, a fire pit is a great way to create a visual focal point, which will encourage your guests to gravitate together. Fire pits come in a variety of designs to suit your space. Check out the trendy table-top gas models. There is something to suit every budget.

Note: Make sure you check your city and county regulations on backyard fire pits and chimineas!

OUTDOOR HEATER: Another great way to make your patio useful this fall is by adding an outdoor heater. This will help generate warmth and keep everyone comfortable, especially when used in addition to a fire pit and blankets!

PATIO ROOFS & ENCLOSURES: With the option to close off your space, you’ll be more likely to stay outside when the temperatures fall. Hanging outdoor curtains can be a significant tool to keep the heat in!

  1. Add a Hot Tub

This may not be an option for everyone, but installing a hot tub is a soothing and fun approach to being outside during the fall months, and even into the winter! A hot tub will make you and your guests feel nice, warm and relaxed any time of year; especially when the temperatures drop.

  1. Fire Up a Grill!

Some think that the grill needs to be packed up with summer. However, fall can actually be the best time to light it up! The blue skies, football games and that crisp feeling in the air will make a warm grill feel that much better. Throw on a sweater, grab a beer and start cookin’!

  1. Decorate For Fall

LIGHTS, LANTERNS AND CANDLES, OH MY!: Lighting isn’t just important inside the house. When done right, outdoor lighting can create a warm, romantic ambiance that you will fall in love with. Holiday lights are a great way to add a twinkle effect, and of course, they are already on the shelves! Candles add a cozy feeling to any space, especially if you have an enclosed patio. Local stores are stacked with pumpkin spice, apple cider and cinnamon scented candles. These are perfect for getting your guests in the fall mood.

WARM COLORS: Fall decorating is about adding warmth and expressing your style. Transitioning from summer to fall means switching out those loud, bright colors for earthier tones. Rusty colors like maroons, oranges and yellows can really give your space a cozy, fall feel. You can easily do this by changing out your pillow covers, cushions, rugs and accessories.

ACCESSORIZE: Nothing says fall like pumpkins and gourds! Create a unique flower pot out of a pumpkin, or a simple centerpiece by filling a bowl with mini pumpkins and gourds. Bird feeders and plants are also a great way to bring your space to life!

Social distancing will become more challenging as the weather starts to change. Now is the time to make adjustments. In creating an inviting space, by using the proper furniture, by adding ways to stay warm, and by creative accessorizing this will allow you to safely entertain well into the chillier seasons. Bonus – this is a great time of the year to purchase patio furniture, grills and other outdoor accessories at steep discount.
