Denver offers more than two hundred parks, totaling over five thousand acres. The public parks in Denver, Colorado are all open year round for recreation, offering everything from easy walking trails to speed boating. Washington Park is the centerpiece for one of Denver’s most sought out neighborhoods. Wash park is known for its huge grassy field and is perfect for outdoor activities. On a nice day, especially on weekends, the park is packed with volleyball nets/players and people just enjoying a day outside. You can also find two ponds that offer fishing, paddle boarding and boat rentals. If you’re looking for a light-medium jog, there is a 2.6 mile, bike-free outer loop.

Cheesman Park is best for relaxing on a sunny day because it is wide open. There is a beautiful pavilion that was built in 1910 perched on top of what used to be “Prospect Hill”. This park is perfect for a picnic, walk or tossing a frisbee. On some summer nights, Cheesman Park screens a free movie in the park. If you’re looking for an activity after you’ve enjoyed the park, the Denver Botanic Gardens are right behind the park!

Central Park features the best Front Range vista of any park in Denver. Because Denver is so flat, Central Park’s views offer a panorama of three fourteeners; Pikes Peak, Mount Evans and Longs Peak. It is also 80 acres, offers a great sledding hill, soccer fields, a unique playground, picnic tables and it’s a great place to fly a kite!

Being the largest urban lake, Sloans Lake offers water lovers options for fishing, boating and jet skiing are available all summer long! Walking, jogging and biking are permitted on the paved trail around the lake. Other amenities include tennis courts, soccer fields and picnic tables. Sloans Lake Park is also a great place for cruising in your car. You can circle the whole lake and get both mountain and city views.

Paco Sanchez Park is known for its gigantic playground, which is argued to be the best play area in Denver. It is a perfect spot for kids to burn off some energy. The playground is surrounded by huge trees and picnic tables, so finding a ‘home base’ to have lunch and relax is easy.

This 11-acre, award-winning Park is located adjacent to the Centennial Civic Center featuring a kids’ water playground, nature areas and an amphitheater. Your little ones will have a blast splashing away while you enjoy some sun!

Right next to the Denver Zoo, City Park is a perfect mix of woods and wide open lawns. Nearly every summer evening you can find recreational sports playing kickball, soccer, softball, flag football, etc. If you like to fish, there are two small ponds where you can do so. Additionally, City Park often hosts festivals including City Park Jazz, a Sunday concert series held from June to August!

Located near Arvada, Inspiration Point Park is a hillside recreation area with a paved trail leading up to an overlook with sweeping, scenic views. With an elevation of 5,415 feet, this 25-acre park offers amazing views, a walking path, a shaded picnic area, and a history that makes the site even better.

This 5.5-acre park honors the public safety profession and the men and women who work to keep our community safe. Additionally, it’s a great place to hang out. The park features two playgrounds, picnic pavilions, a multi-use field, pickle ball and bocce ball courts, cornhole boards and horseshoe pits.

Located along the lovely South Platte River, Commons Park has a mix of city and nature views. On one side of the park, visitors can see the river, grasses and wetlands, while the other side offers views of downtown skyscrapers. With plenty of wide open grass space, this park is perfect for a picnic or a volleyball match.
